To my wonderful grandchildren -"Men are that they might have JOY!" (2 Nephi 2:25)

There is a desire in each and every one of us to seek after happiness or joy. In other words, human beings are motivated by a desire to be happy and we do what we do, because we think it will make us happy. However, we also must recognize that there are two kinds of happiness. Things we do that will make us happy, but only temporarily -vs- those Things we do that will bring us joy eternally.

Earlier this week, I had my alarm set to wake up at 4 AM so that I could drive to Louisiana. Then, at 3 AM I was woken by a terrible dream. I was sitting on a hillside watching fireworks when I looked over to see a young lady and her girlfriend sitting next to me. I knew this young lady very well as she was the same age as some of my own daughters and had in fact been raised with them in the same school, Sunday school and primary classes. (She also had a wonderful family and had been taught the Gospel). What bothered me so much was the open PDA going on between these two girls. It's against my nature to stick my nose into others affairs, but this was so bad, that I wanted to say something to try and help this girl see how wrong she was. Then, it seemed every concerned comment I made was met with really flippant & offensive rebuttals. I woke up feeling sick in the pit of my stomach and so sad within.

Now to my grandchildren, please try to recognize the difference between the temporary and the eternal things in life. I am not saying that all temporary things are bad as we all like to dance or water ski or eat the occasional sleeve of fig newtons! ....However when anything that is temporary leads or drives you away from eternal things, then run, run, run away from them!!

Another great scripture is 2 Nephi 2:27 which says, "Wherefore men are free according to the flesh; and all things are given them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the Great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself."

I truly love you guys and want the very best for each of you.

I'm impressed that our Father in Heaven has provided every needful thing to help us in this life...even our families, immediate and extended. Grandparents can be an influence for good and that is our hope, right Papa? I'm so thankful for you in our lives. I love you.
